The Daimler Scout Car, known popularly as the "Dingo", was an armored car used by Commonwealth forces from 1939 through 1952, and was used in some militaries well into the 1970's. The car was powered by a 55hp six-cylinder engine, carried a crew of two, and could be armed with a Bren .303in machine gun or a Boys .55 anti-tank rifle. Use of a pre-selector gearbox and a fluid flywheel gave the Dingo five gear speeds, both forward and reverse. Four-wheel drive was standard, as were run-flat tires. Over 6,000 were produced over the six-year production run, with several variant models with small detail differences. Dingos were employed by armored formations as fast recon scouts, providing on-the-spot battlefield and movement intelligence to unit commanders.
